Up-and-coming artist, Saleka, headlines Philadelphia’s World Cafe Live tonight in University City.
Saleka is an Indian-American singer/musician/actress who recently released her debut album, Seancé, which was released on May 19, via Range Music/Virgin Music/Capitol Records. Her unique voice gives off R&B, jazz, and neo-soul vibes unlike any other voice you’ll ever hear. Vogue praised her, saying she has a “one-of-a-kind-voice.”
A young artist who began playing piano at the tender age of 4, Saleka left years of playing classical piano to begin a career in R&B/soul music. Her debut showcases her over a decade of classical training, while simultaneously creating a new, fresh sound with elements of R&B, neo-soul, and jazz throughout her music. Saleka is the real deal – she writes, produces, and plays instruments throughout the album – a true artist – a takes listeners on a diaristic journey.
“This tour is a mix of songs from the two projects I released this year, Seance and Songs From The Attic. We put together a show that I feel is very true to the R&B/soul feel of the records but with some personal moments and a little extra live spice 😉 I’m very lucky to have Dai Miyazaki (guitar) and Elliot Garland (bass) on the road with me.They both played on a lot of these tracks so having them play live on this tour feels like the most perfect way to perform this songs!” Saleka explains excitedly.
The daughter of M. Night and Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan, and Philly native, there are nothing but exciting things coming for Saleka.
Check out her at her show tonight at World Cafe Live and you can get tickets here!
