Phoebe Go unveils new song “Something You Were Trying”; plays philly’s Union Transfer January 29

Aussie indie music darling, Phoebe Go, recently released her new song, “Something You Were Trying,” and is preparing for a U.S. tour with Briston Maroney. She visits Union Transfer on January 29.

She released an EP, Player, last year and between releasing Player, and her new song, she felt that it’s been a long time coming to release new music under her own name. It’s been a challenging situation for her because there was no one for her to hide behind anymore.

“I think having overcome that scary part, I’ve now ended up on the other side of the EP feeling like it’s something I can do,” she explained.

She feels she can trust herself and follows her intuition. “It was such a relief to put it out and be in a position to record the music and do it in my own way and in my own terms,” she admitted. “To feel free to do it and not so scared anymore.”

Her music, she explains, has definitely evolved since her EP, Player. “As a general feeling, I just have more trust in the creative process that it will reveal itself and that I won’t have to scrutinize every moment of it. I can just trust that it will happen. It does, and it always does. That’s the magic of it and the weirdness of it,” she explains.

One thing we spoke about in Phoebe’s music was the themes in her music. She explained that she likes to share vulnerability and things she’s scared of. “I want it to be more accepted for people to do that themselves, too. To hero their vulnerability because I think it’s beautiful,” she exclaimed.
