Nashville’s Jaime Wyatt has released her new, reimagined single, “Althea,” from the Grateful Dead’s catalog. Wyatt has been inspired by her love of the Grateful Dead since she was a child, and her father’s friendship with the Dead’s Bob Weir, Wyatt‘s reimagined version of the song puts a new spin on the song with an Al Green soulful spin on the track.
To Jaime, “Althea” is the Grateful Dead’s sexiest, most soulful song they’ve released.
”Either way, I was always taken with the lyrics and it has been quite satisfying and cathartic to sing the lines, ‘Self-centered to the extreme.’ The story feels like turmoil, confusion, and conspiracy, a sentiment which is universal to us humans, but if you’ve ever been on drugs or been addicted to a person, you really understand these words,” Wyatt explains.
The Black Pumas’ Adrian Quesada plays guitar on the track and takes it out of pocket and into that Al Green space. Though it was originally inspired by her love of the Dead and attending their shows as a child, she hopes that the new, reimagined track brings in new fans.
This year has been a huge year for the musician, from debuting her show at Stagecoach, and Newport Folk Festival, and being added to the ACL lineup, she has been making waves for herself as well as on radio with her song, “World Worth Keeping.”
Her new album, Feel Good, her third and “most ambitious” album yet, is one that pushes her to new heights. It blends classic roots, southern soul, and vintage R&B. Stay tuned for the release due out November 3rd.
