Grammy award-winning artist Corinne Bailey Rae unveils new music project Black Rainbows

Today, on Juneteenth, Grammy Award-winning artist, Corinne Bailey Rae, unveils her new music project, Black Rainbows, inspired by the objects and artworks of Theaster Gates at the Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago. This work includes a collection of songs and a book titled Refraction/Reflection of the Arts Bank, which Koto Bolofo photographed. There are also live performances, visuals, lectures, and exhibitions – a completely different turn from her previous work.

Black Rainbows is set for release on September 15 via Thirty Tigers. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here. The first single off the album, “New York Transit Queen,” is out now, and you can listen/share here.

“I knew when I walked through those doors that my life had changed forever,” says Bailey Rae. “Engaging with these archives and encountering Theaster Gates and his practice has changed how I think about myself as an artist and what the possibilities of my work can be. This music has come through seeing. Seeing has been like hearing, for me. While I was looking, songs/sounds appeared.”
