La Securite vocalist Éliane Viens-Synnott stated that it’s a long drive from Chicago to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the next show.
When COVID-19 occurred in 2020, the band came together because they were not able to perform in their primary bands. “I honestly am not sure,” Viens-Synnott stated. “I don’t think so because.. if it wasn’t for the fact that all we had that extra time at that specific moment, and I think it happened for a reason. It’s hard to tell how things turned out.”
The Canadian art-punk five-piece is currently on tour supporting The Go! Team and their next show was in Massachusetts when I spoke with Viens-Synnott on the phone for our interview this past Wednesday.
“The Chicago show, she stated, was a great start to the stretch shows, and they were very well received. The Go! Team are very sweet!”
Éliane and the rest of the band are looking forward to visiting Philadelphia and discovering the city, they’ve never been there before, and hopefully getting a chance to walk around, and explore, going to some shops, tasting the city, and more.
The band’s album, Stay Safe, was released in 2023, and was one of the best albums of that year. I asked how they are able to translate the energy from the album to their live show.
Éliane explained, “When we first got signed to Mothland, and got our two first songs recorded and out there, we were getting asked to play a shows, but we didn’t have enough songs for a set yet, so a lot of the songs were written to be played live first before we even played them. By this point, we had been playing the show quite a bit. We did a two-month run in Europe earlier this year, so we definitely have down the part so we can really concentrate on the energy. Yeah, we bring it. It’s quite fun.”
The band also recently released a new track titled “Detour.” The band wanted to put something new out, but they didn’t have time to start working on a new record yet because they’ve been touring a lot…
“We really found a way how we write together as a band throughout the process… Whereas before it was more like the bass player and I that kind of started this project and everybody kind of put in their own ingredients into like the songwriting, but this one is a lot more connected and I think now we kind of know what our sound or direction is, that is kind of how it went down,” Éliane explained.
The band has set aside some time for writing at the end of 2024, but by the time it’s recorded and all, it probably won’t be until early 2025 that it’s ready for release.
